What Information Is Commonly Gathered After a Fatal Pedestrian Wreck?
After a fatal pedestrian wreck, several types of information are often reviewed to help build a clearer timeline. Road conditions, lighting, traffic flow, and visibility can all affect how drivers and pedestrians interact on a roadway, especially at night.
Vehicle position, skid marks, and nearby traffic signs may also provide useful details. In many cases, investigators look at whether the pedestrian was crossing the road, walking along the shoulder, or standing near traffic before being hit.
Medical findings and witness accounts can help explain the severity of injuries and the sequence of events. Surveillance footage or dashboard camera video may also be included in the review process, if available. Early reports are often brief, and more details sometimes emerge after additional evidence is examined.
