Monroe Township, PA (May 28, 2026) – A 66-year-old Carlisle man died Wednesday morning after a pickup truck crash on Old Trail in Monroe Township. The Snyder County Coroner’s Office said Keith T. Kmetz was pronounced dead at the site following the wreck, which happened around 7:13 a.m. south of Stetler Avenue.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, Kmetz was driving a 2012 Ford F-250 Supercab north on Old Trail when the truck traveled off the roadway and struck a utility pole. The pickup then overturned onto its roof, continued north, struck a guide rail and a mailbox, and came to a stop facing south. A passenger, 47-year-old Susan Kmetz of Wilkes-Barre, was taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville with suspected serious injuries.
Troopers said neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Witnesses were interviewed, and surveillance footage from the roadway was also reviewed. Traffic along Old Trail remained closed for several hours while crews cleared debris and utility damage.
Investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Keith T. Kmetz.
Why Rollover Crashes Often Lead to Severe Injuries
Rollover crashes can cause serious harm because vehicles may strike multiple objects and overturn several times before coming to a stop. Occupants inside the vehicle can be thrown violently during the sequence, especially when seat belts are not in use.
Pickup trucks and larger vehicles may have a higher center of gravity than smaller passenger cars, which can increase the risk of overturning after leaving the roadway or striking fixed objects. Utility poles, guide rails, and embankments are common hazards in rural roadway crashes because they can suddenly change a vehicle’s direction. Investigators often review speed, roadway conditions, driver actions, and restraint use when examining rollover collisions involving severe or fatal injuries.
