Troy, MI (June 1, 2026) – A man was killed and another man injured Saturday night following a three-vehicle crash near the intersection of Big Beaver Road and Woodward Avenue in Troy.
Police said the collision happened around 11:40 p.m. on May 30, when a 34-year-old Troy man driving a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveled westbound on Big Beaver Road and allegedly went through a red light at the intersection. The Jeep then struck a 2007 Toyota Camry operated by a 30-year-old man from Farmington.
The Farmington driver died as a result of the crash. The Troy man was taken to a nearby hospital and was listed in stable condition. Authorities confirmed a third vehicle was also involved, though no details about that driver were released.
Investigators believe drugs may have been a factor in the roadway collision. Additional information about the wreck had not been made public. Police continue investigating the fatal crash. Our sympathy goes out to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
Why Red-Light Crashes at Intersections Can Be Deadly
Crashes caused by drivers entering intersections against a traffic signal often lead to severe injuries because vehicles may strike each other at high speeds from the side. These impacts can leave occupants with little protection, especially when one vehicle crosses directly into another vehicle’s path.
Busy intersections such as Big Beaver Rd and Woodward Ave typically involve continuous traffic flow from several directions. When one driver fails to stop, other motorists may have little time to react before contact occurs. Investigators commonly review traffic signals, vehicle speed, roadway visibility, and witness statements to better determine how intersection collisions develop and whether impairment or distraction contributed to the sequence.
