Avondale, AZ (June 1, 2026) – Two drivers were hurt in an early morning collision near Dysart Road and Encanto Boulevard in Avondale on Sunday, May 31.
According to preliminary findings, officers were called to the intersection at approximately 3:27 a.m. Investigators determined that the driver of an SUV was traveling north on Dysart Road and attempted an unsafe left turn onto westbound Encanto Boulevard.
The SUV struck a southbound vehicle, causing that vehicle to continue into a residential wall and a homeowners’ association sign. Both drivers were reported to have non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency units removed one driver from a vehicle before that person was taken to a nearby hospital. The second driver was not hospitalized.
Police also reported that a passenger in one of the vehicles received minor injuries. Investigators believe impairment may have been a factor in both drivers’ cases.
Southbound Dysart Road was temporarily restricted while crews worked in the area and gathered evidence. Names of the people involved were not released following the collision.
Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the crash before any charging decisions are made.
We hope those hurt in this collision make a full and speedy recovery.
How Unsafe Left Turns Can Lead to Serious Roadway Collisions
Left-turn crashes often occur when a driver misjudges the speed or distance of approaching traffic. These collisions can happen quickly, especially at intersections where vehicles are traveling in opposite directions. Even at moderate speeds, the force involved can result in injuries and significant property damage.
Several factors may contribute to left-turn collisions, including limited visibility, driver distraction, fatigue, or impairment. Roadway design and traffic volume can also affect a driver’s ability to safely complete a turn.
After a serious roadway collision, investigators typically examine vehicle positions, traffic patterns, witness statements, and physical evidence from the roadway. This information helps create a clearer picture of what happened and may assist in determining whether traffic violations or other contributing factors were involved.
