Whites Creek, TN (July 31, 2026) – One person died, and another was hurt after a collision involving three semi-trucks on Thursday morning on the westbound I-24 near Old Hickory Boulevard at mile marker 40.6. The accident was reported shortly after 10 a.m.
Investigators said traffic on I-24 West had slowed because of an earlier wreck involving an overturned semi-truck. Police said 29-year-old Madeline Mitchell of Clarksville was driving another semi-truck and, for reasons still being examined, failed to slow down before striking a third semi-truck.
Mitchell died at the site of the collision. The driver of the third truck received minor injuries. The roadway remained closed for several hours, with delays expected to continue into the afternoon.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing as investigators review the circumstances surrounding the wreck. We extend our deepest condolences to Madeline Mitchell’s family and loved ones.
