What Happens When a Fatal Motorcycle Collision Occurs on a Highway?
When a fatal motorcycle collision occurs on a highway, investigators usually begin by documenting vehicle positions, roadway markings, and any physical evidence left behind. This process helps create a clearer picture of how the vehicles came into contact.
Motorcycles can be especially vulnerable in traffic because riders have less protection than occupants of larger vehicles. Even at moderate speeds, a collision can lead to severe consequences due to direct exposure to roadway forces.
Investigators may also review weather conditions, visibility, traffic patterns, and vehicle damage. Witness statements and available video footage can provide additional context. In some cases, reconstruction specialists use measurements and evidence collected from the roadway to determine the sequence of events.
