Why Motorcycle Crashes Often Result in Severe Outcomes
Motorcycle crashes frequently lead to serious or fatal harm because riders have far less protection than people inside passenger vehicles. Even when helmets and protective gear are used, riders remain exposed to direct contact with the roadway or other vehicles during a collision.
Two-vehicle motorcycle crashes can happen for many reasons, including limited visibility, turning movements, or sudden lane changes. Rural highways and state routes may also present added risks because of higher travel speeds and reduced lighting during evening hours. After these crashes, investigators commonly review vehicle positioning, roadway markings, weather conditions, and witness statements to better understand how the sequence unfolded and whether either driver had enough time to react.
