Why Rollover Crashes Often Result in Severe Outcomes
Rollover crashes are among the more serious types of traffic collisions because they can subject vehicle occupants to multiple points of force during the sequence of events. These crashes may occur after a vehicle leaves its lane, strikes an object, or collides with another vehicle.
Vehicle design, speed, roadway conditions, and the angle of contact can all influence whether a rollover occurs. Pickup trucks and other higher-profile vehicles generally have a higher center of gravity than passenger cars, which can affect rollover risk under certain circumstances.
When investigators review a rollover crash, they often analyze vehicle damage, roadway evidence, and final resting positions. These findings can help establish how the rollover began and the factors that contributed to its severity.
