Chatham Township, OH (June 11, 2026) – Two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday evening, June 9, following a two-car collision at the intersection of Avon Lake Road and West Smith Road. The crash was reported at 7:17 p.m. in Medina County.
One person was hurt seriously and left by ambulance for hospital care, and a second person, whose injuries were described as life-threatening, was airlifted by Metro Life Flight.
Emergency units arrived to find one of the vehicles resting on its side. The intersection was briefly shut down so that medical care could be provided at the scene. Mutual aid was also rendered by a neighboring fire and rescue unit.
No names or ages were included in the initial report on the crash.
Investigators are still working to determine what led to the collision. We wish those hurt a full and swift recovery.
What Happens After a Serious Two-Car Crash in Medina County?
Two-car crashes that result in serious or life-threatening injuries typically draw a significant response. Emergency units may need to stabilize vehicles, manage traffic, and coordinate medical transport, all at the same time. When one vehicle is overturned, additional steps are required before anyone can be safely removed.
Air medical transport, such as a life flight, is generally used when a person’s injuries are too severe for ground transport to address quickly enough. These flights are most common in rural or semi-rural areas where the nearest trauma center may be far away. Medina County’s location makes air transport a practical option in high-severity wrecks.
After the scene is cleared, investigators typically examine physical evidence, vehicle positions, and road markings to piece together what happened. This process can take days or weeks, especially when the injuries involved are serious.
