Nashville, TN (August 25, 2026) – A 26-year-old Nashville man died on Monday morning after a multi-vehicle wreck on I-40 east near Central Pike.

Kendreck Murry Jr. was driving near mile marker 221 when his vehicle struck the back of a garbage truck, according to witnesses cited by police. The truck overturned, and Murry’s vehicle caught fire.

Murry died at the scene. Toxicology testing will be conducted to determine whether impairment contributed to the collision.

All eastbound lanes were closed for several hours, causing major delays during the morning commute. The lanes reopened around 8:45 a.m.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal accident remain under review. Our deepest condolences go to Kendreck Murry Jr.’s family and loved ones.

What Can Cause Fatal Injuries in Multi-Vehicle Wrecks?

Multi-vehicle wrecks can involve several sources of danger, including sudden changes in speed, large commercial vehicles, overturned vehicles, and fires. The force created when one vehicle strikes another can cause severe damage within seconds.

Speed is one factor that can increase the severity of a roadway collision. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and can increase the energy released when vehicles make contact.

Large trucks and other heavy vehicles can also pose additional hazards due to their size and weight. An overturned truck may block multiple lanes and create secondary risks for approaching traffic.

Fire can further complicate a roadway wreck. Fuel, damaged electrical systems, and other materials can contribute to flames after a vehicle is heavily damaged.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
