Carteret, NJ (June 26, 2026) – A crash involving several tractor-trailers left one driver dead early on Thursday morning on the New Jersey Turnpike in Carteret.
The crash happened around 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes. Four tractor-trailers were traveling north when two stopped in the right lane, and another stopped in the center lane, according to the initial report. A fourth truck then struck the rear of the stopped trucks.
The trucks involved in the initial crash caught fire after the vehicles collided. One of the tractor-trailers was carrying lumber. The driver of the fourth truck died from injuries related to the collision.
Traffic backups extended near Interchange 12, with vehicles delayed for several hours. No additional information about the driver was released. The fatal accident remains under review as investigators continue working to determine the full circumstances.
