What Is Commonly Reviewed in Head-on Highway Collisions
When a head-on crash occurs on a rural highway, investigators typically examine lane positioning, potential lane departure, and the driver’s actions leading up to the impact. These factors are often central to determining why a vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic.
They also review roadway geometry, signage, and surface conditions to rule out environmental causes. Physical evidence, such as tire marks, debris fields, and patterns of vehicle damage, helps reconstruct the direction and force of impact. In many cases, reconstruction specialists use these details to establish the sequence of events that led to the collision.
