Lacey, NJ (June 25, 2026) – One person died, and another was seriously hurt on Tuesday night, June 23, after a crash on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County. The wreck happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes near milepost 74.

Emergency units were called for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving entrapment. When they arrived, they found a heavily damaged vehicle with at least one person trapped inside.

Rescue crews worked to free the injured person while a landing zone was set up nearby for a medical helicopter. One person died at the site.

A second person was freed from the wreckage and taken to the landing zone for air transport to a regional trauma center. Their name and medical status were not released. Investigators continue reviewing the crash on the Garden State Parkway.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the person who died and hope the injured person recovers safely.

Why Entrapment Crashes Can Require Extra Rescue Time

Entrapment crashes can take longer to clear because damaged vehicles may block doors, bend frames, or trap people inside. Rescue crews may need to carefully remove parts of the vehicle before a person can be moved.

When serious injuries are reported, air medical transport may be used to reach a trauma center more quickly. A nearby landing zone gives the helicopter space to land away from traffic and damaged vehicles.

Highway crashes can also create challenges because traffic may still be moving close to the work space. Emergency units may need to protect lanes, manage debris, and check for other hazards. Later updates may provide more about vehicle counts, the direction of travel, and what happened before the wreck.
