Adams County, IL (June 25, 2026) – One person lost their life, and two others were injured following a collision involving a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) and an SUV Tuesday evening east of Golden.

According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 9:14 p.m. A side-by-side UTV carrying two occupants was traveling westbound on North 2500 Avenue. At the same time, an SUV occupied by a single person was traveling southbound on East 2903 Lane.

Authorities said the two vehicles collided at the intersection. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and began rendering aid to those involved.

The SUV driver sustained injuries and was transported to Blessing Hospital for treatment. One of the UTV occupants suffered injuries severe enough to require air transport to Springfield Memorial Hospital. The second UTV occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the person who died. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Personnel from the Adams County Ambulance Service, Clayton Fire Department, Camp Point Fire Department, and the Illinois State Police assisted at the scene.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the person who lost their life, and we wish the injured parties a full recovery.

Why Intersections Can Be Especially Dangerous for UTVs and Other Vehicles

Collisions involving UTVs at intersections usually present unique challenges due to differences in size, weight, visibility, and occupant protection compared with conventional passenger vehicles. While UTVs are commonly used in rural areas, they may be more vulnerable to severe damage when involved in crashes with larger vehicles.

Investigators examining intersection collisions typically review vehicle paths, roadway conditions, visibility, traffic controls, and witness statements. Physical evidence, such as impact damage and debris patterns, can help determine how the collision occurred and whether either vehicle attempted to avoid the crash.

In serious injury and fatal crashes, authorities may also examine factors such as speed, driver actions, and environmental conditions. These findings can help investigators develop a clearer understanding of the events leading up to the collision and assist in completing the official crash report.
