Temple, TX (August 19, 2026) – One person died, and another was hurt on Tuesday morning after a single-vehicle rollover in Temple.

The accident happened around 12:46 a.m. on August 18, near S Pea Ridge Rd and Hogan Rd. Officers found a vehicle that had left the roadway and rolled onto its side.

A preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed before leaving the roadway. The driver, identified as 39-year-old Jaekeon Lee of Round Rock, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

The passenger also went to a hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries. No additional information about the passenger was released.

The case remains under investigation as investigators work to determine what led to the wreck. Our deepest condolences go to Lee’s family and loved ones.

What Can Make Rollover Accidents Especially Dangerous?

Rollover accidents can cause serious harm because occupants may experience sudden changes in direction and force. A vehicle can also move across multiple lanes or leave the roadway during a rollover.

Speed can increase the risk of losing control, particularly when a driver makes a sudden steering movement. Road conditions, tire problems, and driver distraction can also contribute to a vehicle leaving its intended path.

Seat belts are especially important during a rollover. They help keep occupants inside the passenger compartment and reduce the chance of being thrown from the vehicle.

Modern vehicles may also include stability-control systems designed to help drivers maintain control. However, these systems cannot prevent every collision, particularly when a vehicle is traveling too fast for conditions.
