Why Three-Vehicle Crashes Can Be Severe
Three-vehicle crashes can cause serious injuries because there may be more than one impact. A vehicle can be struck, pushed into another lane, or hit again after the first collision. The severity can depend on speed, vehicle size, seating position, and where each impact occurs.
Crash teams may review vehicle positions, skid marks, traffic signals, lane direction, road conditions, and witness statements to determine how the collision unfolded. Medical teams may check injured people for head, chest, spine, arm, leg, or internal injuries. Road closures are often needed after fatal crashes so investigators can document the scene safely before traffic resumes.
