Dallas, TX (May 31, 2026) – One person died, and two others were critically injured after a multi-vehicle collision on westbound LBJ Freeway (Interstate 635) in Dallas.
Dallas Fire-Rescue said crews were dispatched at about 6:26 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, to the freeway after reports of a serious crash involving multiple vehicles, including one that caught fire.
Investigators said a blue sedan traveling westbound on I-635 attempted to change lanes toward an exit but crossed several lanes. The sedan struck a concrete barrier and a traffic attenuator before being hit by a white pickup truck, a semitruck, and a trailer.
Officials said the sedan caught fire following the impacts. One passenger was ejected and taken to a hospital in critical condition. A second passenger died at the scene. The driver of the sedan was also hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities said the driver and two passengers in the pickup truck were also taken to a hospital, though their conditions were not immediately released. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the person who died and hope for recovery for those injured.
How Multi-Vehicle Freeway Crashes Escalate Quickly
High-speed freeway crashes can escalate rapidly when a single vehicle loses control or makes an abrupt lane change. On busy corridors like I-635, multiple lanes of traffic often move at high speeds, leaving little time for other drivers to react.
When a vehicle strikes a barrier or slows suddenly, following traffic may become involved in secondary impacts, especially large trucks that require longer stopping distances. Fires can also occur when fuel systems are damaged during high-impact collisions. Investigators typically reconstruct these incidents by reviewing vehicle positions, roadway markings, and electronic data from the vehicles involved to understand the full sequence of events.
