Why Rear-End Collisions With Turning Trucks Can Be Severe
Crashes involving turning commercial trucks and following passenger vehicles occur when drivers misjudge stopping distance or fail to react in time to slowing traffic. The size and weight difference between vehicles can also increase the severity of outcomes.
Investigators typically examine speed, following distance, brake application, and visibility when reviewing these collisions. When a large truck is turning, blind spots and roadway positioning can also become contributing factors.
In many cases, the final position of the vehicles and damage patterns help reconstruct how the impact occurred and why it resulted in serious injuries or fatalities.
