Bandera, TX (September 7, 2026) – A motorcycle rider was injured in a collision with another vehicle along the 4000 block of Highway 173 North on Saturday, September 5.
The initial dispatch report said the rider was bleeding from the head. Emergency units were sent, and an air ambulance was requested because of the reported medical needs.
A landing zone was prepared while the helicopter was about 30 minutes away. The flight was later canceled, and the rider was taken to a hospital by ground ambulance instead. The crash remains under investigation.

Head Injuries Are a Serious Concern for Motorcycle Riders
Motorcyclists have far less surrounding protection than occupants of enclosed vehicles. Even with a helmet, sudden contact can expose the head and upper body to substantial force from another vehicle, the pavement, or nearby objects.
Visible bleeding does not by itself show how severe a head injury may be. Medical teams may also look for changes in alertness, confusion, dizziness, vomiting, or other signs that could indicate trauma beneath the surface.
Speed, helmet use, contact angle, and the rider’s landing position can all influence the extent of harm. Rapid medical evaluation is especially important after significant motorcycle trauma because some neurological symptoms may develop or become clearer over time.
