Fairfax, IA (June 13, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash at Williams Boulevard and 80th Street left one person with minor injuries on Thursday at 4:11 p.m. Law enforcement located a silver Nissan Pathfinder with front-end damage in a south ditch along Williams Boulevard and a red Chevy Blazer on the shoulder of 80th Street.
The Nissan was reported to have failed to yield while crossing Williams Boulevard from 80th Street. The Blazer, traveling southbound, struck the Nissan, sending it into the ditch, where it hit a utility box. Diana Barre, 63, of Fairfax, was driving the Nissan and was taken by ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries. Terrie Hornberg, 51, of Fairfax, who was driving the Blazer, was not hurt.
Law enforcement continues to review how the crash occurred, and more details may be released. We are thinking of those affected as recovery continues.
What drivers should know about failure-to-yield intersections
We discuss how intersections with through traffic require drivers entering from side roads to wait for safe gaps.
Misjudging the speed or distance of oncoming vehicles can lead to serious harm. Even when traffic seems light, higher-speed roads can close gaps quickly. Roadside damage, such as utility boxes or signs, can also occur when vehicles leave the roadway after sudden maneuvers.
Visibility, weather, and driver attention all affect decision-making at crossings. Drivers are advised to slow down when approaching intersections and confirm clearance in both directions before entering a through road.
These principles apply across urban and rural settings and help reduce risk where traffic patterns intersect. Consistent caution at junctions can reduce preventable harm and support smoother traffic flow for all road users.
