What Happens When a Vehicle Overturns?
A vehicle can overturn when it loses stability during a turn, strikes another vehicle, leaves the roadway, or encounters an uneven surface. Higher speeds and sudden steering movements can increase the risk of a rollover.
Occupants may experience injuries from seat belt forces, contact with the vehicle interior, or movement inside the passenger compartment. Common injuries can include bruising, fractures, and head or neck trauma.
Seat belts help keep occupants secured and can reduce the risk of being ejected during a rollover. Properly maintained tires and careful speed control can also help drivers maintain vehicle stability.
