Why Crashes Involving Large Trucks Can Cause Major Traffic Disruptions
Collisions involving large commercial trucks often require more time to clear than those involving passenger vehicles. Their size and weight can block multiple travel lanes, especially if a truck leaves the roadway or overturns. Heavy-duty recovery equipment is frequently needed before normal traffic can resume.
Investigators typically examine the truck’s path of travel, roadway conditions, vehicle damage, and physical evidence left on the pavement. They may also review electronic data from the vehicles, witness statements, and any available video footage. These findings help establish the sequence of events while allowing crews to safely remove damaged vehicles and debris from the roadway.
