Belleville, WV (September 5, 2026) – A 61-year-old man was injured on Friday morning after a train struck his Kia Sorento at a railroad crossing in Belleville.
Gregory Grimm of Point Pleasant was about halfway across the crossing when the train hit his 2019 Kia Sorento. The incident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. at Harris Hwy and Belleville Dr.
The Kia was pushed approximately half a mile from the crossing. Grimm was flown to a hospital in Huntington for treatment, though the extent of his injuries was not available.
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation. We hope Grimm makes a full recovery.
Why Are Train and Vehicle Accidents Usually Serious?
Train and vehicle accidents can cause severe injuries because trains are much heavier and take significantly longer to stop than passenger vehicles. Even a vehicle that is moving slowly across railroad tracks can be struck with substantial force.
Drivers should stop when crossing signals activate or gates begin to lower. Motorists should never attempt to drive around lowered gates or cross tracks when a train is approaching. If a vehicle becomes stuck on the tracks, occupants should exit immediately and move away from the tracks while contacting emergency services.
