Charlotte, NC (July 17, 2026) – One person was injured in a serious crash on Thursday morning, July 16, on the John Belk Freeway near Fourth Street in Uptown Charlotte.
The collision occurred around 8:30 a.m. just past Exit 2A. Emergency crews initially closed two lanes before shutting down all lanes of the freeway to respond to the scene and investigate the incident.
Medic transported one person to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released the extent of the individual’s injuries or provided additional information about those involved.
The full closure caused heavy traffic backups extending onto the Brookshire Freeway to Interstate 77 and inbound Independence Boulevard from Eastway Drive. Most lanes reopened by approximately 9:30 a.m., and traffic conditions later returned to normal. The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
