Brighton, MO (July 30, 2026) – One person was injured in a traffic accident on MO-13 about two miles south of Brighton on Tuesday night, July 28. The collision was reported at approximately 9:32 p.m.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado driven by a 45-year-old Springfield woman struck the rear of a northbound 2006 Freightliner M2 operated by a 41-year-old Kansas City man.

The Freightliner driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar for treatment. The Springfield woman was not listed as injured in the initial report. The Chevrolet sustained total damage and was towed from the roadway, while the Freightliner sustained minor damage and was driven away.

The circumstances surrounding the wreck remain under investigation as additional information becomes available. We wish the injured driver a full and speedy recovery.

What Happens During a Rear-End Crash Investigation?

Rear-end crashes are among the most common types of roadway collisions and can occur when traffic slows unexpectedly or when a driver is unable to stop in time. Even at moderate speeds, these collisions can result in injuries and significant vehicle damage.

Investigators typically examine skid marks, vehicle damage, roadway evidence, and witness statements to determine how the collision occurred. Traffic conditions, visibility, and following distance may also be reviewed as part of the process. Maintaining a safe distance behind other vehicles, remaining attentive, and anticipating changing traffic conditions can help reduce the likelihood of rear-end collisions on busy highways.
