West Yarmouth, MA (June 25, 2026) – One person was injured after a sport utility vehicle struck two pedestrians and fled the scene on Tuesday night in West Yarmouth.

According to the Yarmouth police and fire officials, emergency crews responded at approximately 9:20 p.m. on June 23 to the area of 518 Route 28 near Springer Lane following reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, responders discovered that two pedestrians had been hit by a dark-colored SUV that left the scene before authorities arrived. Initial reports indicated one victim was conscious and suffering from a possible shoulder injury.

One pedestrian was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Due to a language barrier, emergency personnel requested that translation services be arranged at the hospital before the patient’s arrival. The emergency department was also placed on trauma alert. A second pedestrian was evaluated at the scene by Yarmouth Fire Department personnel and did not require hospitalization.

Investigators said they currently have limited information about the vehicle involved, other than it being described as a dark-colored SUV. The hit-and-run crash remains under active investigation.

We hope the injured pedestrian makes a full and speedy recovery.

What Do Investigators Look for in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crashes?

Hit-and-run incidents involving pedestrians require extensive investigative efforts because authorities must identify both the vehicle and driver involved. Investigators commonly review surveillance footage, witness statements, vehicle debris, and physical evidence from the scene to develop leads.

Pedestrian crashes can occur in areas with heavy vehicle and foot traffic, making it important for investigators to reconstruct the movements of everyone involved. Evidence gathered at the scene may help determine the vehicle’s direction of travel, speed, and other contributing factors.

Law enforcement agencies frequently seek assistance from the public in locating vehicles involved in hit-and-run collisions. Information provided by witnesses can play an important role in helping authorities identify those responsible and establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
