Why DUI-Related Crashes Often Result in Severe Consequences
Crashes involving impaired driving can lead to serious outcomes because alcohol or drugs can affect judgment, reaction time, and lane control. Even a brief loss of attention or coordination may result in a driver leaving their lane or entering another vehicle’s path.
Highway travel adds additional risk due to higher speeds and limited time for corrective action. When vehicles are moving in the same direction, a sudden lane deviation can still result in a high-force collision.
Law enforcement investigations in suspected impairment cases typically include toxicology testing, roadway reconstruction, and review of driver behavior leading up to the crash.
