Marshall County, KS (June 9, 2026) – One person was killed, and two others were seriously injured after a collision involving a farm vehicle and a train on Monday afternoon in Marshall County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at about 4:40 p.m. near a private drive to Harvest Road, approximately two miles northwest of Marysville. Investigators said a 2008 Rogator industrial farm sprayer was traveling south on a private driveway when it failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the path of a westbound Union Pacific train.
Officials said the train struck the sprayer on its driver’s side. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Ryan S. Friedrichs of Marysville, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said he was the only person inside the farm vehicle.
Two members of the train crew were also seriously injured in the crash. Ricki G. Robertson, 60, of Fairbury, Nebraska, and Ryan C. Banahan, 40, of Endicott, Delaware, were both transported to area hospitals for treatment.
Investigators noted that safety restraints were not being used at the time of the crash. The incident remains under review by authorities. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and are thinking of those injured as they recover.
