Apopka, FL (August 20, 2026) – A 37-year-old Orlando man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday, August 18, at the intersection of Clarcona Road and Gilliam Road in Apopka.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. when a 46-year-old Orlando man driving a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on Clarcona Road attempted to turn left onto Gilliam Road.
Investigators said the Tahoe collided with the front of a northbound 1999 Honda Civic driven by the 37-year-old man. The Civic driver was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Witnesses told investigators that the Tahoe driver fled the scene on foot following the collision. With assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, troopers located and detained him about one mile from the crash scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol identified the driver as 46-year-old Jason Salustro of Orlando. He was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and was booked into the Orange County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.
