Why Pedestrian Accidents Can Be Fatal on Busy Roads
Pedestrian accidents can be deadly because people walking have no protection from a vehicle. A pickup truck can cause severe trauma due to its size, height, and weight. Injuries may affect the head, chest, spine, hips, or legs, and emergency care may not always be enough to save a person.
Busy roads can also create added risk. Drivers may be watching traffic signals, turning vehicles, lane changes, and nearby intersections at the same time. Visibility, speed, road design, lighting, and crosswalk access can all affect how much time a driver has to react. After a fatal pedestrian roadway emergency, investigators may review vehicle damage, travel direction, witness statements, and nearby cameras to understand how the contact occurred.
