Why Pedestrian Injuries at Busy Intersections Can Be Severe
Pedestrian injuries at busy intersections can be serious because people walking have no protection from a vehicle. Even at city speeds, a person may be knocked down or thrown onto the road. Injuries can affect the head, chest, spine, hips, legs, or arms.
Intersections can also be complex places for drivers and pedestrians. Vehicles may be turning, stopping, changing lanes, or entering traffic from several directions. Visibility, traffic speed, signal timing, crosswalk placement, and road design can all affect how much time a driver has to react. Camera footage, witness statements, vehicle damage, and roadway markings may help explain how the person was hurt.
