Sumter County, GA (August 20, 2026) – One person was killed, and another was airlifted to a hospital after a head-on crash on Thursday, August 20, near the intersection of Highway 308 and Three Bridges Road in Sumter County.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred Thursday morning when one driver allegedly crossed the median and collided head-on with a pickup truck.
One person was pronounced dead following the collision. Another person was flown by air ambulance to a hospital for treatment. Officials have not released the identities of those involved or additional information about the extent of the surviving victim’s injuries.
Traffic in the area was rerouted along Highway 308 as deputies and emergency crews responded to the scene. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office advised motorists to use caution while traveling through the area. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
