Corpus Christi, TX (August 12, 2026) – A 59-year-old man was killed, and another driver was seriously injured Monday evening after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 361 near Beach Access Road 2 in Corpus Christi.

The victim was identified as 59-year-old Jarrod Fangman, according to the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office. His family has been notified.

The crash happened around 7:10 p.m. Investigators determined that the driver of one vehicle was traveling south on Highway 361 when he swerved into the northbound lane and struck another vehicle.

Fangman died in the collision. The driver of the vehicle investigators determined was at fault suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital by medics.

Alcohol is not suspected to have contributed to the crash. Highway 361 was shut down while officers investigated the collision and crews worked at the scene. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and use caution near the crash site.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision. We extend our deepest condolences to Jarrod Fangman’s family, friends, and loved ones and wish the injured driver a full recovery.

Why Lane Departures Can Lead to Serious Head-On Collisions

A vehicle crossing into an opposing traffic lane can create an especially dangerous situation because approaching drivers may have very little time to react. The resulting collision can involve substantial forces because the vehicles may be traveling toward each other.

Investigators typically examine vehicle damage, roadway evidence, lane positions, witness accounts, and available video footage when reconstructing a collision. These details can help establish how a vehicle crossed into the opposing lane and determine the sequence of events before impact.

When a crash causes serious injuries or a fatality, the investigation may also involve a detailed examination of the vehicles and roadway. These findings help authorities establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and determine whether additional factors contributed.
