Dallas, TX (August 12, 2026) – A man was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while walking on the shoulder of Interstate 35E in Dallas.

The crash happened shortly after 2 a.m. in the 3800 block of I-35E near Laureland Road. According to Dallas Police, the man was walking along the freeway shoulder when he was struck by a vehicle that did not stop.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity has not been released.

Several northbound lanes of I-35E were shut down near Laureland Road while officers investigated and crews worked at the scene. Traffic was diverted onto the service road, resulting in significant backups for several hours.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

Why Pedestrians Face Serious Risks on Freeways

Freeways are designed primarily for high-speed vehicle traffic, making them particularly dangerous environments for pedestrians. A person walking along a freeway shoulder may be difficult for approaching motorists to see, especially at night or in other low-visibility conditions.

Drivers should remain attentive and watch for unexpected hazards near the edge of travel lanes. When a vehicle stops on or near a freeway, motorists should also be prepared for people who may be outside their vehicles.

Investigators examining a pedestrian crash may review roadway conditions, lighting, visibility, vehicle damage, witness accounts, and available video footage. These details can help establish what occurred before the collision and determine the circumstances that contributed to the incident.

2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
