Kansas City, MO (June 3, 2026) – One person was seriously hurt in a collision reported late Wednesday morning near 75th Street and Troost Avenue in Kansas City.

According to investigators, the driver of a black Ford Expedition was traveling westbound on 75th Street from The Paseo around 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3. For reasons that have not been determined, the SUV struck a speed limit sign near 75th Street and Harrison Street and then hit a streetlight east of Troost Avenue.

The Ford continued into the intersection of 75th Street and Troost Avenue, where it struck a pickup truck towing a trailer carrying a Bobcat. After contact between the vehicles, the trailer detached and spun completely around before stopping.

The SUV came to rest against a light pole. The driver was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, while the driver and passenger in the pickup truck were not hurt. No additional details about the wreck were available at the time of publication.

Investigators are continuing to gather information to determine what led to the roadway accident.

We hope the person receiving treatment makes a full and speedy recovery.

How Multi-Vehicle Impacts Can Lead to Serious Injuries

When more than one vehicle is involved, the movement of each vehicle can create additional hazards beyond the initial contact. Secondary strikes, detached trailers, roadside objects, and sudden changes in direction can increase the chance of severe harm.

Vehicles towing equipment or heavy machinery may present added risks because the trailer can shift, separate, or rotate unexpectedly after contact. This can create unpredictable movement that affects nearby drivers and passengers.

Medical evaluations are often recommended after major roadway collisions, even when symptoms are not immediately apparent. Some injuries may take time to become noticeable as adrenaline wears off. Information gathered from vehicle damage, roadway markings, witness accounts, and other physical evidence can help provide a clearer picture of how a serious transportation-related occurrence unfolded.
