How Do Crosswalk Crashes Involving Scooters Happen?
Crashes involving scooters in crosswalks can occur when drivers do not see someone entering the roadway in time. Scooters move faster than pedestrians, which can make it harder for drivers to judge distance and speed.
Intersections often require drivers to watch for multiple directions of traffic while also checking for people crossing. A moment of distraction or misjudgment can lead to a collision.
Electric scooters are smaller and quieter than vehicles, which may reduce how noticeable they are. Visibility, timing, and awareness from both drivers and riders all influence how these incidents occur.
