Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are most common in multi-vehicle car accidents?
Drivers and passengers usually suffer whiplash, bruising from seatbelts or airbags, and strains from sudden braking or impact. More serious crashes can cause fractures or head injuries, so anyone involved should be checked by a medical provider even if they feel fine at the scene.
What typically causes crashes like this one?
Chain-reaction collisions involving several vehicles usually stem from one driver misjudging following distance, sudden braking, a lane change, or a momentary lapse in attention. Investigators usually piece together the cause from vehicle positions, damage patterns, and witness accounts.
Why is distracted driving particularly risky in highway traffic?
At highway speeds, a driver's attention away from the road for even a few seconds can cover a long distance before they react. That delay narrows the time available to brake or steer away from a developing hazard ahead.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Otsego, Minnesota
If you're involved in a multi-vehicle crash, move to a safe spot if possible and check yourself and others for injuries before calling 911. Stay put until law enforcement arrives and get the names and insurance information of everyone involved, along with contact details for any witnesses. Even if you feel okay, see a doctor in the days after the crash, since some injuries from a collision don't show symptoms right away. Keep copies of any medical records, photos of the scene, and the police report for your own files.
