Frequently Asked Questions
What factors make a crash more likely to be fatal?
High speed, multiple vehicles, and limited time to react all raise the odds of a deadly outcome, especially on interstates where traffic moves fast and following distances can be short.
How does speed affect crash survivability?
Higher speeds increase the force involved in a collision, which can make injuries more severe and leave less time for drivers to avoid or reduce the impact.
Why does seat belt use matter so much?
A seat belt keeps an occupant from being thrown inside or out of the vehicle during a crash, which lowers the risk of serious injury or death.
What should families do after a fatal crash?
Families can contact the investigating agency, in this case the Martin County Sheriff's Office or the Florida Highway Patrol, for updates on the investigation and for guidance on obtaining official crash reports.
