What Is Commonly Reviewed in Parking Lot Pedestrian Crashes?
Parking lot pedestrian crashes are often reviewed by examining vehicle movement at low speeds and the visibility of pedestrians in surrounding areas. Investigators typically look at whether the driver had clear sightlines while reversing and how pedestrian paths intersected with vehicle travel lanes.
Surveillance cameras from nearby businesses, such as stores and parking lot security systems, can play a key role in reconstructing events. Investigators may also evaluate lighting conditions, vehicle blind spots, and whether warning signals were used during backing maneuvers.
Medical reports and witness accounts are often reviewed to clarify the sequence of impacts. These cases frequently involve detailed scene mapping to determine how the pedestrian and vehicle came into contact.
