Raleigh, NC (July 31, 2026) – A passenger was injured after a pickup truck crashed into an occupied apartment building in the 5600 block of Forest Oaks Drive in North Raleigh early on Friday morning, according to investigators. The wreck happened around 3:15 a.m. No residents inside the building were hurt.

The driver left before first responders arrived. The passenger was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash knocked down a power line, and Duke Energy crews responded. The Raleigh Fire Department found the building structurally safe, and no residents were displaced.

The search for the driver remains ongoing.

Why Do Fire Crews Inspect a Building After a Vehicle Strikes It?

When a vehicle hits a building, the impact can affect more than just the immediate point of contact. Crews check for cracks, shifting, or other signs that the structure’s support has been compromised, even if the damage looks limited from the outside.

This kind of inspection matters most for load-bearing walls or support columns, since damage in these areas can affect the stability of the entire building rather than just one unit. A quick visual check helps determine whether residents can safely stay in place or need to be relocated while repairs are made.

Utility lines add another layer of concern, since a downed line near a damaged structure can pose an electrical hazard in addition to any structural risk. Coordinating between fire crews and utility companies helps ensure a building is both structurally sound and safe from other hazards before residents resume normal activity.
