Smithfield Township, OH (August 18, 2026) – A 29-year-old passenger was killed in a two-vehicle collision on County Road 10 in Jefferson County. The collision occurred around 8:22 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, about 0.2 miles west of State Route 152.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the passenger as Corey Shetler of Dillonvale. Shetler died from injuries suffered in the crash and was pronounced dead at 9:38 p.m. According to the patrol, a Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling west on County Road 10 near a right curve. An eastbound Chevrolet Silverado failed to negotiate a left curve, left the roadway, overcorrected, and crossed the centerline into the westbound lane.
The right side of the Silverado struck the right front of the Cavalier. The pickup then left the roadway and entered a ditch, while the Cavalier remained in the westbound lane and partly off the right edge of the road. The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified alcohol as a contributing factor in the crash.
