What Is Commonly Examined After a Fatal Intersection Collision?
Fatal crashes at intersections usually require extensive review because multiple vehicle movements occur within a relatively small space. Investigators typically begin by examining the direction of travel, turning movements, and final resting positions of the vehicles involved.
Roadway features such as traffic signals, signs, lane markings, and visibility conditions are also analyzed. These elements can help determine whether drivers had a clear view of approaching traffic and whether right-of-way rules were followed.
Vehicle inspections may be conducted to identify any mechanical issues that could have contributed to the collision. Investigators also review physical evidence from the roadway, witness statements, and other available information to reconstruct the sequence of events. The findings help establish how the collision occurred and provide a clearer understanding of the factors involved.
