What Information Is Commonly Reviewed After a Pedestrian Hit-and-Run?

Pedestrian hit-and-run cases usually involve several types of evidence. Investigators may review nearby surveillance footage, traffic camera footage, photographs, and accounts from witnesses to the collision. Damage to a vehicle can also provide useful information about what happened.

Medical records may help document the nature and severity of a pedestrian’s injuries. The location of the person when they were struck can also be examined, particularly when a marked crosswalk is involved. Investigators may review roadway markings, traffic signals, lighting, and other conditions that could help establish what occurred. Vehicle fragments or paint left behind can sometimes provide additional clues about the car involved. These details can help build a clearer record when the driver leaves before being identified.
