Palm Harbor, FL (June 22, 2026) – A pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a Sunstar Paramedics ambulance at the intersection of US-19 and Innisbrook Dr in Palm Harbor on Saturday night, June 20.

According to Sunstar Paramedics, the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. as an ambulance was traveling northbound on US-19 while responding to a medical emergency in Tarpon Springs.

Preliminary information indicates the pedestrian was walking a bicycle across the roadway against a red traffic signal when they entered the path of the ambulance. Authorities reported that the ambulance crew stopped immediately following the collision.

Sunstar officials stated that the crew began providing emergency medical care at the scene before transporting the injured pedestrian to a trauma center for further treatment.

Details regarding the victim’s condition have not been released, but the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We hope the injured pedestrian makes a full recovery.

Why Do Crashes With Emergency Vehicles Require Detailed Investigations?

Collisions involving emergency vehicles require extensive investigations because responders may be operating under emergency conditions while traveling to urgent calls. Investigators review numerous factors, including vehicle movements, traffic signals, witness statements, roadway conditions, and emergency response protocols.

When a pedestrian is involved, authorities also examine crossing locations, visibility, and the actions of all parties immediately before the collision. These reviews help investigators determine how the crash occurred and whether any contributing circumstances were present.

Emergency vehicle operators receive specialized training, but crashes can still occur when multiple factors converge in busy traffic environments. Thorough investigations help establish a clear sequence of events and support future roadway safety efforts.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
