Stockton, CA (July 22, 2026) – A pedestrian was hurt after being struck by a vehicle on July 21 on the eastbound SR-4 just east of S Sinclair Avenue in Stockton.

According to CHP dispatch reports, the call came in at about 5:21 a.m. Initial information indicated that the reporting party remained inside the vehicle and was in shock after the person was hit. The pedestrian was initially difficult to locate before being found lying in the eastbound lanes of the highway.

Emergency units arrived and confirmed that the person had suffered a head injury. The vehicle involved, described as a silver Kia, stopped on the right shoulder with its hazard lights activated. The report was later upgraded to a major injury collision as crews worked on the roadway.

The cause of the collision has not yet been determined, and the investigation is continuing as more information becomes available.

We hope the person hurt in this crash makes a full and speedy recovery.

Why Are Pedestrian Crashes on Highways Usually So Serious?

Pedestrian crashes on highways frequently result in severe harm because vehicles travel at much higher speeds than they do on city streets. Drivers may also have less time to react if someone is in a traffic lane, especially before sunrise or in low-light conditions. After a person is struck, investigators commonly review roadway lighting, visibility, vehicle speed, witness statements, and any available camera footage.

Physical evidence, such as tire marks and vehicle damage, may also help explain what occurred. Medical records can later provide a clearer picture of the extent of a person’s injuries. Gathering this information helps build a more complete understanding of how the roadway encounter unfolded, while additional facts continue to emerge.
