Why Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crashes on Expressways Are Especially Serious
Pedestrian crashes on expressways tend to be severe due to high traffic speeds and limited safe walking access. When a person is on or near a freeway, drivers have very little time to react to unexpected hazards.
Hit-and-run situations can further complicate investigations because key details such as vehicle speed, lane position, and driver behavior are initially unknown. This can slow early understanding of how the collision occurred.
After these incidents, investigators typically rely on roadway surveillance, physical evidence, and witness accounts. These elements help reconstruct the sequence of events and determine how the pedestrian was struck.
