Lexington, SC (August 30, 2026) – A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on South Lake Drive near Daralynn Drive in Lexington County on Friday, August 28. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is seeking information to identify the driver involved.
Troopers said their preliminary investigation indicates that a 2012 to 2019 Ford Taurus was traveling west on South Lake Drive when it struck the pedestrian. The vehicle then left the area westbound toward Red Bank. The vehicle’s color was not known when the investigation was announced.
Troopers said the suspected Ford Taurus should have passenger-side damage and shared a photo of a vehicle matching the reported make and model. The available information did not provide the pedestrian’s age, identity, or condition. The incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian as they recover.
What Should Pedestrians Know About Hit-and-Run Crashes?
Pedestrians have limited physical protection when struck by a motor vehicle, which can result in serious injuries. The severity of harm can depend on factors such as vehicle speed, impact location, and the pedestrian’s position on the roadway.
A hit-and-run can make it harder to determine what happened because the involved vehicle may leave before information is exchanged. Vehicle descriptions, photographs, witness accounts, and physical evidence can help establish details about the collision.
Drivers should remain attentive around pedestrians near intersections and roadside areas. Pedestrians can also improve visibility by using marked crossings and wearing reflective clothing during periods of limited light.
