Las Vegas, NV (June 28, 2026) – A pedestrian was left with life-threatening injuries after being struck by an SUV on Friday night along West Flamingo Road in Las Vegas.

The accident happened at about 9:08 p.m. on West Flamingo Road east of South New Forrest Drive. According to police, a 2013 Toyota Highlander was traveling westbound in the right lane when a person attempted to cross the road while outside a marked or implied crosswalk and entered the vehicle’s path.

The front of the SUV hit the person, who was thrown onto the roadway. Emergency units took the pedestrian to the UMC Trauma Center, where medical staff determined the injuries were life-threatening. The driver remained at the site and showed no signs of impairment. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released. The police are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding what led to the collision.

We are keeping the injured person and their loved ones in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Why Crossing Outside a Crosswalk Can Increase the Risk of Serious Pedestrian Injuries

Pedestrians are especially vulnerable when crossing busy roads outside designated crosswalks. Drivers may have less time to see someone entering traffic unexpectedly, particularly at night or on multi-lane roads where visibility can be reduced. Even when motorists are traveling within the speed limit, stopping distances may not be enough to avoid contact if a person suddenly steps into the roadway.

Several factors are commonly reviewed after a pedestrian crash, including lighting conditions, traffic flow, vehicle speed, visibility, and the actions of everyone involved. Road design, lane configuration, and nearby traffic controls may also help explain how the collision occurred. As more information becomes available, these details can provide a clearer picture of the circumstances surrounding the roadway encounter.
