Pedestrian Safety on Roads in Lackawanna County
Pedestrians face significant risks when walking along or crossing roads, particularly during overnight and early-morning hours. Limited visibility can make it harder for drivers to see people near travel lanes.
Drivers should remain alert for pedestrians and adjust their speed to roadway and visibility conditions. Driving under the influence can also impair judgment, reaction time, and the ability to recognize hazards.
Pedestrians can improve their visibility by using designated crossings and wearing reflective clothing when walking in low-light conditions. Both drivers and pedestrians should remain attentive to one another, especially on roads with limited lighting.
