What Investigators Review in Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crashes
Investigators handling fatal pedestrian crashes often examine vehicle damage, roadway evidence, and witness statements to determine how the collision occurred. In hit-and-run cases, officials also focus on the driver’s actions immediately after the impact and the timeline of events following the crash.
Nighttime pedestrian accidents may involve reduced visibility, making lighting conditions and traffic flow important parts of the investigation. Surveillance cameras from nearby homes or businesses can also help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events.
When a driver later turns themselves in, investigators may continue reviewing physical evidence and statements to confirm details surrounding the crash. These investigations often remain active while authorities determine whether charges are appropriate.
